Steps or CommandsFortiClient is by default installed in the C:\Program Files\Fortinet\FortiClient directory with various log, quarantine, and update information maintained within that directory. The configuration settings are stored in the Windows registry.This article describes how to backup and restore a complete FortiClient configuration, (which includes antivirus, Firewall, VPN, and other general configuration settings) using the Windows ‘regedit’ tool. These settings can only be restored if they were saved on the same computer that had a backup of them, since the registry settings contain machine-specific entries.WARNING: The incorrect usage of the Windows Registry Editor can cause serious problems requiring there-installation of your operating system and possible loss of data. USE THE REGISTRY EDITOR AT YOUR OWN RISK. Ensure you have a backup before proceeding.To backup a FortiClient configurationGo to StartRun.Type regedit and press OK.Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\FortinetRight-click on the FortiClient key and select Export.Specify where you want to save the file on the hard drive. For example, you can name it forticlient.reg.To restore a FortiClient configurationShut down FortiClient.StartRun.Type regedit and press OK.Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Fortinet and delete the Fortinet key and its subkeys.Locate the stored registry file (forticlient.reg in this example), and double-click on it. Confirm that you want to add the information to the registry.The previously stored configuration will now be applied.
